"I don't know about you miss kitty but I feel so much yummier!"
This sequel to the Prince-tastic original 1989 Batman goes darker, weirder, camper and sexier ...so much so McDonald's infamously recalled their Batman Returns Happy Meal toys after seeing the final film!
It's Christmas in Gotham City and Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin (Danny DeVito) returns after being abandoned in the sewers by his parents many Christmasses ago. Whilst the residents initially take him to heart as he runs for major backed by Christopher Walken's businessman Max Shrek, it's not long before The Penguin is enacting revenge and terror on the city that shunned him.
Meanwhile Max's secretary Selina Kyle (Michelle Pfeiffer) has the worst day at work ever - just before the office shuts for Christmas! - when she's thrown out of a window by her employer and is adopted by cats, ripping up her vinyl raincoat and slinking into one of the sexiest screen costumes of all time to become Cat Woman. Batman has to keep Gotham safe from this villainous pair in a nightmare Christmas that's even worse than when your uncle said that thing on Boxing Day.
Tim Burton brings his twisted eye to this unique 1992 superhero film that has never been matched in tone or weirdness, it paints every character out as a loveable freak looking for something in the dark streets of Gotham. And the streets are tricked out for the festive season with amazing set design with snow, towering Christmas trees and twinkling lights as the backdrop to the crime fighting making for one of the most wonderfully dark and campy Christmas films ever alongside Gremlins and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Beloved by the queer community, endlessly quoteable and with some of the most memorable costume and character design in cinema this is one film that needs to be watched with a room full of festive film fans on a 4K screen with a snowball in hand!
Please note: This screening is not a Make A Scene "way-too-interactive screening" meaning audience participation isn't encouraged. We do encourage you to stay around and mingle in the bar after the screening to discuss the film and suggest future screenings.
