MAKE A SCENE x BAD GAL FILM FEST - GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES
sUNDAY 16TH MARCH 2025
This International Women’s Day, Ducie Street Warehouse team up with Bad Gal Film Club to present the Bad Gal Film Festival, a month-long celebration of women in film at the Mini Cini. Taking place every Sunday in March, the festival will showcase a carefully curated line-up of films, from indie gems to iconic classics, alongside interactive workshops, discussions and special guest appearances.
The festival programme features acclaimed films such as Shiva Baby (2020), Matilda (1996), Thelma & Louise (1991), Run Lola Run (1998), All About My Mother (1999) and Hidden Figures (2016), among others.
Make A Scene Film Club are screening "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" on Sunday, March 16th at 6:30pm as part of the festival, a fizzing, camp classic about female sexuality in the 1950s and what a woman had to do to survive.
This iconic musical from Howard Hawks that features numbers such as “Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend” and more has been referenced from Madonna’s Material Girl video to Moulin Rouge and with unforgettable comedic performances from bubbly “dumb” blonde Monroe and aserbic brunette Jane Russell we couldn’t think of a more fun throwback to screen at the festival.
The screening includes and intro by Make A Scene’s Gary James Williams
Synopsis:
Lorelei Lee (Marilyn Monroe) is a beautiful showgirl engaged to be married to the wealthy Gus Esmond (Tommy Noonan), much to the disapproval of Gus' rich father, Esmond Sr., who thinks that Lorelei is just after his money. When Lorelei goes on a cruise accompanied only by her best friend, Dorothy Shaw (Jane Russell), Esmond Sr. hires Ernie Malone (Elliott Reid), a private detective, to follow her and report any questionable behavior that would disqualify her from the marriage.
