Momma welcome to the sixties!

Hop your hair and drop the needle on the record...Make A Scene are back bringing the Way Too Interactive treatment the 1988 John Waters classic Hairspray (with added splashes of the 2009 John Travolta musical thrown in for good measure!)

We want you up on your feet, doing the bird, the stricken chicken and the watootsie as we turn our beautiful venue Texture into The Corny Collins Show studio live from downtown Baltimore!

We'll be clearing room for a full on dance floor so let's see you bust a move as we ditch the Connie Francis records and play some of Motor Mouth Maybelle's best platters.

There'll be food, booze and music, multimedia projections...everything you've come to expect including a turn from hostess Grace Oni Smith as Debbie Harry's Velma Von Tussle who'll be presiding over proceedings making sure her daughter Amber gets the best close ups and trying to keep your dancing wholesome.

There's a touch of history repeating as we tie up the themes of the film with today's Trump Era America. Shot in 1988, set in 1963 at the heart of the civil rights struggle, we still need the message of breaking down barriers and fighting for your rights . The event is part of the LGBT Liberty Festival which will culminate with a solidarity march on in Manchester City Centre on Sunday 11th June - we'll be making banners and placards that rally against the politics of division and mark out the future we want. We've come so far and we've got so far to go...and we're sending a positive message to the queer, black and latinx communities in America that we're all moving forward together. As Tracey says...we shall overcome.

The event will be raising money for The Orlando Pulse Community Fund.

Hairspray's a fun film with a serious message and could only have been made by the queerdo master of outsider cinema John Waters. There'll be free John Waters moustaches and Divine eyebrows given out to everyone as they enters and we'll be asking you to dress up as characters from the film, don your sixties puffball skirts and hop your hair. We'll have stylists on hand to help drag you into the sixties!

And for fans of the 2007 musical version of the film, we'll be peppering the night with the best musical numbers from the stage show and the film for you to sing a long to...you can't stop the beat, after all!
